CAP® - Certified Administrative Professional®

Organizational Management (OM) Specialty

 

The Certified Administrative Professional (CAP®) Rating and Organizational Management (OM) Specialty exams are administered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals® (IAAP®), headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

To achieve certification, an administrative professional must meet certain education and administrative employment requirements and pass a comprehensive examination.  Applicants for the Organizational Management specialty exam must have a current CAP rating or be applying for the CAP exam at the same time.

 

The CAP Examination:

 

The CAP exam is a 4˝-hour exam administered the first Saturday of each May and November, at over 250 locations across the United States, Canada and other countries.  The CAP exam covers:

*       18% Communication

*       16% Organization and Planning

*       14% Information Distribution

*       14% Records Management

*       13% Physical and Information Resources

*       13% Document Production

*       8% Financial Functions

*       4% Human Resources

The Organizational Management specialty exam is a 3˝-hour exam administered Saturday afternoon.  The Organizational Management specialty exam covers:

*       36% Organizational Planning

*       27% Advanced Communication

*       23% Advanced Administration

*       14% Team Skills

Recertification

 

By earning the CAP rating, you have received the most prestigious designation offered to administrative professionals.  The achievement of the CAP rating is both a validation of current skills and a commitment to a life-long learning process.  To ensure that skills are kept current in the administrative profession and to maintain professional competency throughout your career, CAP holders are required to update credentials through the recertification process.

Study Groups

 

Valley West Chapter is currently conducting a study group via e-mail for any member interested in preparing for and attaining the CAP certification.  Participants will receive copies of tests early in the week, with the answers later in that same week.  The tests cover the study materials in the Prentice-Hall study guides.
